I want to add more lenses to my collection and what I am looking for is a good quality Macro lens as well as a good lens for taking portraits for a CANON70D camera. There are so many lenses out there and for me it is a minefield. I would really appreciate some suggestions from yourselves on what has worked or what you are using now.
Hi Luke, I'm a Nikon shooter so can't help you with the specifics for Canon. I'm also not a pro, not even close. But I have read on quite a few sites (but could be mistaken) that the 85mm f/1.8 is seen as the ultimate portrait lens, and for macro either a 105mm or 200mm lens, depending on your budget and needs. I have the 105mm macro for Nikon and I quite like it, but I'm not a macro shooter at all. So now I will point you to my source of all info relating to gear: Ken Rockwell - http://kenrockwell.com/canon/lenses/index.htm. Hopefully he can help you decide, he even has a page dedicated to macro lenses: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/best-macro-lenses.htm.
Thanks Nadia for your input, I will follow up on the links that you have given me and hopefully there will be more clarity.
Thanks Simon, to be quite honest with you after much research and listening to what everyone had to say I decided to buy the Canon 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens this past weekend. I am glad to hear you ar very happy with your lens. The limited shooting I have done with my lens has really impressed me and I feel that I have made the right choice. Thanks for your input.
