I came upon this scene on a backroad near Punda Maria in Kruger park last week. The tire tracks leaving the frame not only indicates what happened, but also that the perpetrator left the scene and unfortunately so has the spirit of the little dove, leaving his mate to mourn. I watched this bird fly up twice to let cars pass, only to settle down in exactly the same spot afterwards. Turtle doves mate for life and this gives some perspective on the reference to people in love as "twee tortelduifies".

Dankie Leon. Dink die slim mense sal sê nee, maar geoordeel aan die prentjie lyk die outjie vir my baie hartseer.

This is so sad, showing how life is so hard on different levels . Excellent.
