Born in South Africa in 1977, Matthew Copham developed a great interest in nature and wildlife from a young age. He completed his first game ranger course at the age of sixteen and spent his school holidays volunteering at a wildlife rehabilitation center near the Kruger National Park. Having successfully completed his studies, Matthew then joined the eco-tourism industry as a professional guide. At the age of nineteen, he was employed full time in the Greater Kruger National Park, moving between the Manyeleti, Sabi Sands and Thornybush game reserves. It is here that Matt believes he gained the most invaluable experience for his future as a professional guide and wildlife photographer.

Matthew was first published as a photographer in 1997, and has subsequently continued his passion for wildlife photography throughout his career. Matthew now uses his photography for raising money for specific funds such as Botswana’s Rhino re-introduction program, Children in the Wilderness and Elephants without borders. He is happy anywhere with his camera, space and good company.

After working for Wilderness Safaris for eight years and pro guiding since 1997 Matthew has built up a significant safari following, Matthew now travels further afield to Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya and Zimbabwe. He brings a distinct enthusiasm and a great deal of experience to each tour making each guests’ private tour a unique and life-changing event. His guiding blog, www.safarifootprints.com houses all of his stories and adventures through Africa.
